v. 29
LMMMAAAOOO because as we enter Spring, it’s important to remember a cultural masterpiece.
But more seriously, the weather is still fluctuating so much, reminding us that we’re in the thick of the transition from one season to another. How exciting that we’re priivy to the ever-evolving nature of not only the seasons, but our own feelings and seasons of growth. While, I too, would much rather enjoy a warm, sunny day outside, it’s important that we notice the changes. And before long, we’ll all be in Spring, with barely any jackets in sight, dusting off our favorite open-toe sandals, and carrying our picnic baskets in tow.
Because while it is certainly chilly, and the climate ahead is uncertain, we can all allow ourselves to lean into the discomfort, only to be surprised by how beautiful it will be on the other side.
Community Question
Thiahera said she wants a poll, so here we go! This week’s question is a temp check—how are we doing? I know we’re all being stretched and contracted at the same time, but I still have a good feeling about 2025 and the joys (as well as the necessary lulls that come for us all) that we’ve yet to experience so let me know…
On the Couch
No Taste Like Home with Antoni Porowski is a PG-rated feel-good show that’s Finding Your Roots meets Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations. The show keeps it light and sweet, but it’s still enough to make me weep. Maybe it was just my cycle, but I wept like a precious child over episode two, “Awkwafina’s Korean Homecoming,” where Awkwafina reconnects to her late mother’s homeland—South Korea.
While episode four, “Issa Rae’s Senegalese Royal Roots,” had me craving some of my favorite West African dishes the entire time, like jollof, maafe, red red, and waakye, the end of the show had my tears flowing again.
Episode five, “Henry Golding’s Malaysian Adventure,” was the most fun to watch, and it wasn’t just because he fine!
The various production locations make it obvious that the budget must’ve been STACKED towards travel, so it makes sense why the first season is only five episodes. With such a short debut season, it’s a delightful show that makes you want to savor rather than binge.
Issa Bookshelf
This book was the plot twist in Q1 that I didn’t know would appear in my reading list! I’m so happy to have gotten a copy of Good Sex by Dr. Candice Hargons, and I’d recommend it to all bodies! Though the book covers basics many of us have come to understand in Sex Ed 101, it’s always nice to get a refresher course in the basics, plus some new ways to approach sex with a more evolved, empathetic, curious mindset. I only have a few chapters left but it’d make it a requirement for every fucking body.1
At minimum, we can all benefit from having a shared language with our intimate partner(s) around sex.
Here are some highlights from the book so far:
Chapter 3: Good Sex is Pleasurable
“Savoring includes a more tantric, slow, mindful approach to letting the pleasure build up, fill you, and be thoroughly appreciated. Devouring includes a faster, consuming, delightfully chaotic approach to letting pleasure envelop and take you. Both are valid approaches to pleasure.”
Chapter 8: Good Sex is Reciprocal
In regards to creating a Yes/Maybe So/No sex checklist… “Like Will and Malcolm, it may not be that you move the No to your Maybe So column, but you can ask your partner what other activities from your Yes or Maybe So list would be an equivalent replacement. Again, the goal of reciprocal sex is not for both partners to do the exact same things with and for each other, but for each person to feel their desires are approached with mutuality.”
Okay, that’s enough freebies! Buy the book (and you know damn well I want you to buy local or indie!)💋
S/O to Jay for putting me on to Dr. Hargons’ work to even get the book!
Beating Down the Block/Knocking Basquiat’s Off the Wall
YouTube DJ playlists are still reigning supreme these days because I’m over my Spotify collection, and this is a great way to discover new music without having to play roulette with Spotify’s wack ass algorithm. This mix is filled with oldies but goodies.
As Seen On…
LOL. Much like the creator of the content/post, I can liken these identities of myself to the BIG 3 zodiac placements (sun, moon, rising). I’m a recovering drill sergeant sun, former rip current moon, and past life broken cell phone rising, too!
It’s always a breath of fresh air to have our emotions validated on Beyoncé’s internet. We’re not alone, despite the loud voices in our head that would convince us otherwise, and unkindly, too. Drop a comment below on how some of these traps of the mind resonate with you.
P.S. There’s a part 2! I almost incorporated some of those traps in my initial breakdown, but the truth is that these are ALL traps I’ve fluctuated between at some point or another in my life.
So now, I’m proud to be a mirror sun, a rushing river moon, and a wildflower rising with major spring cleaning placements!
Seriously Sexy 😈
This KNWLS jacket has my Springtime fashion fantasies written all over it! It’s playful and dark all the same time. This! with a killer pair of stockings or even a pair of well-patterned athlesiure leggings, would make it the perfect Spring/Fall fit accessory. Yet again, if anyone wants to spoil me, feel free to make yourself known 🤭
Oh, and real quick!
I saw this and thought we could all use encouragement as we’re waiting for things to change, so go with love, with whatever ASAP means to you. 🫂❤️🌺
Get it? Fucking? 😄
